Trump’s Continuing Disregard for the Constitution
The 22nd amendment states:
No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.
If Donald Trump had any respect for the Constitution, he would not allow merchandise implying a third term to be sold in his Trump Store.
There is no ambiguity in the 22nd Amendment, and he lacks the support to repeal it. The only logical conclusion is that he intends to disregard it, just as he has repeatedly ignored other constitutional provisions, including the First Amendment (freedom of speech), the Fourth Amendment (due process), and the Fifteenth Amendment (voting rights).
Trump’s pattern of undermining foundational legal principles reveals a dangerous contempt for the rule of law. If left unchecked, such behavior threatens the very democracy the Constitution was designed to protect.
