Several news sources reported today that National Security Adviser Mike Waltz inadvertently added a reporter to a Signal group chat containing high-level national security officials, includingWhat Happens When You Hire the Unqualified, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Signal is an encrypted messaging app available for both Apple and Android devices.

Once inside the group, the reporter had access as officials discussed detailed war plans ahead of a March 15 military operation against rebel forces. When questioned about the breach, Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) downplayed the incident, stating, “I mean, everybody makes mistakes, texting somebody—we’ve all done it”.

While mis-texting happens, most people don’t accidentally share classified military strategies—let alone with a journalist. The severity of this lapse raises serious concerns about the competence and vetting of Trump’s appointees.

Equally alarming? Trump reportedly learned of the breach from a reporter—the same media he frequently attacks. Ironically, the journalist involved was from The Atlantic, a publication Trump has repeatedly disparaged.

This incident underscores a troubling pattern: loyalty over qualifications in Trump’s administration, leading to reckless security failures. If this is any indication, such blunders may only escalate in the future.
